If, for any reason, you need to get something from your waiter/waitress, try to make eye contact or wave to him/her. Remember, hissing or shouting is considered impolite.

Tipping and toothpicks

You've just finished your meal at Denny 's. The food and service were both good. You look at the check. While sales tax¹ is included, you'll notice that the tip isn't. The reason for this is simple: it's up to you to decide if the service and quality of the food merit a tip.

If the service was good, it's customary to leave a tip of between 10% to 15% of the total. However, if for any reason you're dissatisfied with the food and service, you don't have to leave a tip.

Just remember that before you leaving, don't add the tip on the total when you pay the bill, but leave the tip on the table for the waiter/waitress.

And here is something else you might like to know. If after your meal you want a toothpick, you won't find any toothpick dispensers on the table. You can get toothpicks at the cashier's desk.
