3. Go on

- Go on + gerúndio significa 'continuar'.

She went on talking about her illness until we all went to sleep.
(Ela continuou falando sobre a doença dela até todos nós irmos dormir.)

The employees went on working until the next morning.
(Os funcionários continuaram a trabalhar até a manhã seguinte.)

- Go on + infinitive refere-se a uma mudança de ação, isto é, quando alguém passa a realizar uma ação diferente:

After writing the compositions, the students went on to count the words.
(Depois de escreverem a redação os alunos foram contar as palavras.)

She stopped talking about that and went on to describe her other problems.
(Ela parou de falar sobre aquilo e começou a falar sobre os outros problemas dela.)

4. Mean

- Mean + gerúndio significa 'implicar em':

Accepting that job offer will mean moving to a different city.
(Aceitar aquela oferta de trabalho implicará em mudar de cidade.)

- Mean + infinitivo significa ter a intenção de fazer algo:

I don't think she means to get marry for the moment.
(Não acho que ela tem a intenção de se casar no momento.)

5. Try

- Try + gerúndio significa experimentar, provar, fazer alguma coisa para ver o que vai acontecer:

Try eating French snails. (Experimente comer scargot.)

I tried sending her flowrs, writting her letters, giving her presents, but she still wouldn't speak to me.
(Tentei mandar flores a ela, escrever cartas, dar presentes, mesmo assim ela não quer falar comigo.)

- Try + infinitivo significa fazer esforço por algo, tentar fazer alguma coisa:

The thin boy tried to lift the chair but it was too heavy for him.
(O menino magrinho tentou levantar a cadeira mas ela era muito pesada para ele.)

Try to eat more vegetables. (Tente comer mais vegetais. / Esforce-se para comer mais vegetais.)
