Equivalências entre os sistemas métrico e não métrico
Recentemente, a Grã-Bretanha adotou algumas unidades de medida métricas; mas as medidas fora do padrão métrico (non-metric measures, também chamado de sistema imperial de medidas) ainda são bastante utilizadas. Os britânicos medem seu peso em stones e pounds ou (mais recentemente) em Kilograms; Os norte-americanos utilizam somente pounds. Na Grã-Bretanha, as roupas e os calçados possuem numeração tanto britânica como no sistema métrico. Como muitas lojas de roupas fazem parte de cadeias norte-americanas, também se podem ver tamanhos americanos nas etiquetas. Embora a Grã-Bretanha esteja acostumada ao sistema métrico para os tamanhos, a maioria das pessoas usa o sistema britânico.
Os vestidos em geral vão do tamanho 8 (tamanho 36) ao 20 (tamanho 46), e os sapatos vão do 4 (tamanho 37) ao 11 (tamanho 45). Para camisas, um colarinho de 16 polegadas é tamanho 41. Um de 17 é 43 e um de 18 é 45.

Do people in the UK use "stone" to express their body weight?
Officially no, the government have decided that we should all use the metric system for weights. Our government likes to make decisions like that because they are full of their own self importance in the mistaken belief that people will do as they're told. Interestingly they (the government) are still clinging on to miles to measure distance.
In reality yes, because old habits die hard. I guess 99% of people in the UK still use Imperial measurements especially for body weight. So if you ask a Brit what weight they are, they will more than likely answer you in stone and pounds. They probably won't even know their weight in kilos. However be warned, in the UK asking what weight someone is can be quite a personal question. Don't ever ask a stranger what weight they are or you may recieve an answer like "it's none of your business".
